EUTHANASIA.
The controversy that I have recognized is euthanasia. According to euthanasia.com, “Currently 34 states have statues explicitly criminalizing assisted suicide… Only the states of Oregon and Washington permit physician-assisted suicide.” People have argued that people have the “right to die,” however, some have said that people have the “right to live.” My position in this debate is that people have the “right to die” when there is no hope and no chance. Here are several resources I would consider to facilitate the development of my writing: religioustolerance.org, euthanasia.com, righttodie.info, rtlamendment.org.
In order to craft a convincing argument, you will have to carefully explain what you (and other people in the controversy) mean by "right to die" and "right to live." Does everyone agree on the meaning of these terms? You will also have to describe when and how you think euthanasia should be performed. Part of the difficulty is deciding in which cases euthanasia is appropriate.
ReplyDeleteYou might also research the states of Washington and Oregon. How is euthanasia regulated there? Is there any evidence that this system is working better than other states?
