Public Controversy Proposal

For my public controversy essay, I’ve decided to write about what should be done about the rising rates of obesity in America. It is estimated that by 2030 half of Americans could be obese if we continue on the path we are on. However, what is the best way to approach these growing obesity trends? Some experts say the only way to change is to dramatically change all Americans’ lifestyles. I think the only way to stop these growing trends is to educate Americans. Without the knowledge, Americans cannot understand why they need to make a lifestyle change. We need to start with education and then we can build up from there.

  1. What do you mean by "educate America"? How, where, and when could Americans get this knowledge? What kind of knowledge should they get?

You can use your research to find out more about what kind of knowledge helps people control their health and weight. Is there any evidence that educating obese people results in weight loss and healthier living?
