Controversy: In the United States, the medical disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), has been diagnosed to more than 7 million children and young adults. The grounds of the diagnosis are not scientific according to the DSM and the testing procedures are not extensive. Since there is no standard procedure for testing ADHD, the disorder is diagnosed more frequently and allows more people to access the ADHD treatment medicine, Adderall.
Argument: Not having standard testing procedures have lead to a dependency of Adderall and shortage across America.
Counter Argument: People diagnosed may actually have problems focusing or they may actually have ADHD.
Position: My position is that there should be extensive standard testing for an ADHD diagnosis.
